Three steps between wanting it and buying it.

HoldUp puts a pause between “I want this” and “I bought this”. No budget, no bank login, no account. Here's the whole thing, start to finish.

Put something on hold

The three steps

  1. Step 1: Tell HoldUp what's tempting you

Name the thing, its price and why you want it. You can add a link to it and your hourly pay, which turns the price into hours of your work.

It stays in this browser. Nothing connects to your bank, and there's no account to make.

    Example of a filled-in hold
    The thing
    Noise-cancelling headphones
    Price
    $349
    Hourly pay (optional)
    $28/h
    Why do you want it?
My old pair crackles on calls
  2. Step 2: Pick a cooldown

Choose 24 hours, 72 hours or 7 days. A countdown starts, and your hold card shows the exact day and time it ends.

Skip and Buy stay locked until then. That's the pause doing its job.

Example: 72 hours chosen, one minute in
    • 24h
    • 72h (chosen)
    • 7 days

Time left: 2 days, 23 hours and 59 minutes.

Skip and Buy stay locked until it ends.

  3. Step 3: Decide with a clear head

When the cooldown ends, choose Skip it or Buy it. Either answer is fine.

Skip it and the price goes onto your money-you-didn't-spend total, kept in this browser. Buy it and the total stays as it was.

    Example: 72 hours later, skipped

    Still want the headphones?

    • Skip it
    • Buy it

    Money you didn't spend

What it really costs

A price tag is easy to wave through. Your hold card puts it another way, so you can feel the number before you pay it.

Enter your hourly pay and it divides the price by it: that's how many hours you'd work to pay for it.

Leave the pay blank and it compares the price to everyday things instead: coffees out for small buys, takeout dinners for two in the middle, date nights for the big ones.

Examples, worked out the way your hold card does it

$349 with $28/h entered

That's 12.5 hours of your work at $28/h.

With no hourly pay entered

  • A $18 buy

That's about 4 coffees out at $5 each.

  • A $349 buy

That's about 9 takeout dinners for two at $40 each.

  • A $1,200 buy

    That's 12 date nights at $100 each.

Your partner can see it too

Tap “Share with your partner” on your hold card. On a phone it opens your share options; elsewhere it copies the link.

Your partner opens it in any browser, with no account, and sees the item, the price, your reason and the time left. The link is read-only, so they can't change the hold or decide it for you.

The hold travels in the part of the link after the #, which browsers never send to a server. Your hourly pay and the shop link are left out.
